Expected results of the project
- Computerised database
on resources and contact points relevant for control of communicable diseases
in each Member States, continuously updated under the responsibility of the
Member States and of one or more gatekeepers for each country.
- Improvement of the exchange
of information among the Member States relevant for the European Network for
Communicable Disease Control
- Improved opportunity
for standardisation of protocols for investigations of communicable disease
outbreaks, of quality assurance of reference microbiological laboratories
and other points relevant for the control of communicable diseases across
the European countries.
- Improved opportunity
for sharing technology, facilities and staff for highly contagious diseases
by knowing specific locations, contact points and procedures in each Member
States and other near countries.
- Improved preparedness
for international outbreak control.
The purpose of the Inventory
is to provide description and analysis of the existing resources for the monitoring
and control of communicable diseases in the 15 Member States of the European
Union, the following additional countries candidate to become Member States
Malta, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Latvia, Romania, Hungary, Estonia,
Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Turkey, Bulgaria and the associated States Iceland,
Norway and Switzerland.
The Inventory database
is a tool for finding the contact persons who play a role in the control or
diagnosis of infectious diseases.
To build this database,
data are continuosly collected and updated by each State under the general
coordination of the 'Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Rome, Italy' who
provided five questionnaires on the following topics:
- Statutory notification
systems
- Non-statutory notification
systems
- Outbreak alert systems
- Institutions
- Laboratories
The Inventory Web site
consists of:
- A public part open to
the public where the central Data Base can be accessed with the use of navigation
tools implemented to easily find the information.
- An authorized user's part open only
to the authorized users (national gatekeepers and their correspondent, supervisors)
for the continuous updating of the collected information, each in charge of
revising their portion of the data base or add new data.
